This image of a Male Rufous Hummingbird looks every bit like he is wearing a mask although the mask (actually gorget) is below his beak. It seems appropriate for this year of wearing masks and it is the most beautiful mask I've seen, This was taken back on May 26, 2010 by Dave Ostrom near Cranbrook, BC.

Wawawi Park is deserted. The Picnicker's and the summertime campers are gone are gone and thoughts now turned to fall and winter activities. As I wondered through this park It was quiet except for birds and few squirrels. The fall colors were at their best and the light was perfect. Jerry Cunnington, 11/21/21.

A sunrise over the Palouse captured from Kamiak Butte in the early morning on December 27th by Dave Ostrom
The Elegant Cat's Ear is a special flower that is often missed as it is low to the ground but it is wonderful to see once it is found. It gets its name from the hairs on its petals but the deep purple also intrigues me. It has a single leaf that if one doesn't look closely is hard to associate with the flower. This example was found at a Palouse Land Trust Conservation Easement called Judy's Trail on the outskirts of Troy, Idaho. It was taken by Dave Ostrom on June 14th.
The Tundra Swans are making a brief visit to Lake Chatcolet this week, while on their way north. This was taken on March 11th, 2021 by Dave Ostrom. The swans are feeding in the mostly empty lake bed and the pair in this image were displaying.
These were the first Buttercups on Kamiak Butte that I've seen this year. They are always a sure sign of spring. Photographed by Dave Ostrom on the ridge of Kamiak Butte on March 18, 2021.
