The Palouse prairie is home to rare species such as Palouse milkvetch and mountain lady slippers. As the saying goes, the May flowers are here.
The Idaho Native Plant Society White Pine Chapter will go in search of the blooms on a field trip to private property Saturday, May 19. The group will meet for a half-day trip at 8:30 a.m. at Rosauer's parking lot in Moscow to arrange carpooling.
The expedition will be led by Emily Poor and Walt Lundsford and the group will travel to Parker Butte east of Palouse, Wash., where they will encounter mixed ponderosa pine forest and prairie remnants.
People should bring water and sunscreen. Trails will likely be over uneven ground.
