The Washington Idaho Symphony Association Board of Directors has named Danh Pham its music director and conductor.
Pham has acted as guest conductor for the symphony since the resignation of the last conductor. The appointment marks a return to the group’s traditional management structure where the roles of conductor and executive director are separate. The association appointed Kristin Lincoln executive director in September.
“Dr. Pham has consistently proven that his ability to effectively lead the orchestra and work with the staff and board of the association is exactly what the symphony needs,” Lincoln said in a press statement. “We’re excited to move him from the guest conductor to the permanent conductor/music director position and we are certain he will be able to grow the organization and continue to ensure the orchestra is of the highest quality.”
Pham teaches at Washington State University and is conductor of the WSU Symphony Orchestra and Director of Bands. He also conducts the WSU Opera and Musical Theatre.
Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Pham received his degrees from DePauw University, Indiana University, and the University of Oklahoma.
