Still stumped about what to give to friends and family this holiday season?
How about a trophy?
That’s right, you can buy trophies. You don’t have to win them or earn them; you can just order a trophy for whatever you want.
That means trophies have some serious gift-giving potential. They meet all the thoughtful gift requirements: trophies are personalized, acknowledge a person’s talents or interests and, well, you just can’t have too many of them.
Sure, you can recognize the people in your life for their actual achievements and contributions, but should you run short of praiseworthy content, trophies need just a touch of creativity to get around all that. The secret is to think outside conventional use.
For example, you might want to offer general recognition of your “Favorite Middle Child” or “Best Dishes Do-er.” Even less admirable qualities can be recognized, like “Most Odorous Individual” or “Best Laundry Neglector.”
Boxing trophies portray two individuals fighting. Maybe you have someone in your life who doesn’t box, but inspires that fighting spirit in you -- you could engrave the bottom with “Favorite Sibling to Fight With” or “Person I Most Want to Punch.”
There are trophies the size of small vehicles that might be adored by someone with the “Biggest Ego” or, conversely, someone with the “Worst Self-Esteem Ever.”
Some trophies are in the form of a huge cup. There’s no reason drinking water can’t be a more rewarding experience for the “Best Hydration Enthusiast” in your life or “Person Who Most Needs A Big Cup.” Likewise, there are large trophy bowls that would undoubtedly be appreciated by the “Person Who Most Loves Ice Cream.”
Trophies are available in just about every genre -- there are trophies specific to arm wrestling, weight loss, fashion, shuffleboard, friendship and more.
But even these highly individualized trophies can be used with a twist. A pig trophy could be given to the “Person Who Ate the Last Piece of Cake.” A religious trophy might suit the “Most Spiritual” person in your life who seems to want some earthly recognition. There are fishing trophies for your favorite “Fish Story Champion.”
Any small accomplishment can be recognized. That 42 year-old video-game-playing nephew of yours who lives in his parent’s basement, for example, is at least deserving of a participation ribbon.
And don’t forget to give yourself a trophy, too. Undoubtedly your skills and sacrifices are largely underappreciated, so give yourself a visible pat on the back that can sit on your shelf and prove to the world that you’re as awesome as you say you are.
