Image: [Pictured: The SciBorgs (4061) along with CHUCK (2147-Spokane, WA), and Metal Mallards (4692-Toutle, WA) in the Playoffs]. The Palouse Area Robotics Team (FRC Team 4061) battled it out at Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem, Oregon on February 28-March 1. They finished in 4th place, among 36 other F.I.R.S.T. Robotics high school teams from Washington and Oregon. They earned a spot as the #3 Alliance Captain in the Playoffs. The SciBorgs became the event Finalists and earned the prestigious Gracious Professionalism (GP) Award for the district event. The PART SciBorgs include students from Moscow, Pullman, Colfax, and the surrounding area. "Doing so well was awesome, but the team-to-team bonds were really what made the experience rewarding," said Sylvia Pierce-Garnett, Electrical Sub-team (Moscow student). "that and leading Alliance #3 to be the runner-up in the finals!" The SciBorg’s next competition is at the Sundome PNW Event in Yakima March 14-15 from 9 am to 4 pm. The public is welcome to come watch! Admission is always free, and it is a family-friendly atmosphere. You can catch the robot action online at https://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2025wayak

Image: Ruby Claire Johnson-Leung, a junior from Moscow High School is one of four elite Dean's List Finalists from the Pacific Northwest FRC District (FIRST ROBOTICS). She will compete at the FIRST Championships held in Houston, TX, April 17-20th. Ruby Claire has been a member of the 4-H Palouse Area Robotics Team SciBorgs for two seasons. She is the Lead Robot Designer/CAD Lead, Co-Lead Mechanical Student, Lead Business Student, and Drive Team Coach at Competitions. Ruby Claire’s greatest skill is her willingness to take on a hard and novel task, ask the right questions, give it a wholehearted try and then be ready to fail and learn and grow into new skills and confidence. Ruby does not only practice this herself, but models and encourages this growth mindset for the whole SciBorg team, regardless of subteam or level of expertise.

Battling through many challenges with robot hardware and software, the SciBorgs showed perseverance and positive determination and ended the qualification matches with a #11 ranking out of 31 PNW District teams attending the tournament. They also became an Alliance Captain during the Playoffs. The SciBorgs look forward to their next tournament in Yakima at the Sundome on March 15-16th. The SciBorgs Robotics Team Competes in Oregon City last weekend

Image: Build Season has now begun and the SciBorgs are busy building and testing prototypes! The FIRST Robotics Competition 2024 season’s game Crescendo, presented by The Haas Company, began on January 6th. In the game the robotics team needs to pick up and score foam rings and be able to climb and hang from a chain during each match! The high school students from Moscow, Pullman, Colfax, and the surrounding area are working hard to design a robot with those capabilities. The team is also developing their Swerve Drive programming skills and using SolidWorks CAD software to model the new robot digitally. The SciBorgs are hoping to be able to build the final robot, wire, program, and test drive it by their competition in Clackamas, Oregon on March 1st and 2nd. Although the team designs, builds, and competes with a large robot, F.I.R.S.T. teams aren’t just about building robots. The mentor-based STEM program develops professional, leadership, and communication skills, and it encourages gracious professionalism in all that they do throughout the competition season and beyond. The 4-H PART SciBorgs are celebrating 13 years of inspiring and encouraging students around the Palouse.
