Bank Left bids goodbye to summer: Autumnal Equinox dinner & exhibit features Spokane musician

While the Autumnal Equinox was last Sunday, Bank Left Gallery and Bistro has extended their fall welcoming with Under the Skylight, a dinner and concert 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

We wanted to have the dinner on the 28th in order to give summer one last breath,” said Nelson Duran, Bank Left Gallery director. “An extra week.”

Music will be provided by classical guitarist Paul Grove, while art from the Palouse Women Artists is on display. A Moroccan tagine dish will be served by candlelight.

Many of our gallery/bistro clients, including Trio Dolce from Moscow, came with the idea of celebrating all the history of the second floor by having dinner and music by candlelight,” Duran said. “The acoustics on the floor are amazing. The second floor has been almost untouched for over 120 years.”

Grove, who teaches music theory and guitar at Gonzaga University, will play Spanish music written for guitar.

Especially when people are having a good time, that music tends to go over well,” Grove said.

Grove started playing Beatles songs on guitar when he was 10, and many years later, earned a doctorate in music.

It’s been quite a long journey,” Grove said. “I’ve been in Spokane about 15 years.”

His musical interests stem from his mother, a violinist, and his dad, who was a Lutheran minister.

So, I just got kind of intrigued,” said Grove, who now wakes to play guitar for four hours each day, before teaching at the university.

Grove will be playing at the gallery alone by candlelight.

I’m eager to come down and share,” he said.
