A live, musical interpretation of the popular comic strip “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” opens tonight at the Regional Theatre of the Palouse in Pullman.
Based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by the late Charles M. Schulz, the show brings its characters and perspectives to life through a series of vignettes. Just as in the comic strip, the characters play baseball, face difficult school assignments and woo their romantic crushes, all with the usual childhood joys and fears. Song and dance bring Broadway “sparkle” to the story, said John Rich, executive director.
“It’s quick, it’s fast-paced,” Rich said.
“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” was first produced in 1967, but this theater production will feature the newest version of the show, with new songs and scenes that vary from the original. While the show is certainly child friendly, its appeal extends to all ages.
“I think the parents will pick up on memories from their childhood and also the philosophy of the comic strip,” Rich said.
The show features not only Snoopy (Luke Schwendiman, Pullman) and Charlie Brown (Jett Bingman, Moscow), but also Sally (Lindsey Rivera, Pullman), Lucy (Olivia Calza, Moscow), Schroeder (Michael Todd, Pullman) and Linus (Adam Berenter, Pullman).
