This multimedia piece by Alison Lawhead will be part of a First Friday Art Showing at The Studio in Moscow on Friday.

After living in the Portland and Seattle areas for years, all the art communities either have a First Friday or Third Thursday, and we liked the idea,” said The Studio owner and artist Jay Wilson.

Seven artists will be featured at the Friday event and include scenic Idaho photographer Jonathan Gradin, acrylic painter Jonathan Matteson and oil painter Sylvia Capaul. Other artists include Dede McReynolds, Leslie Wisocki, Alison Lawhead and Wilson himself, who plans to bring out his loom for a demonstration in October -- the next First Friday will occur Oct. 4.

ArtWalk is way too fast and only happens once a year,” said Wilson, who has been reaching out to local businesses such as Nourish and Gnosh in hopes to extend businesses hours and open First Friday to his block, and eventually all of Main Street. “But it’s going to take a couple months.”

Beyond the seven featured artists, Wilson said any interested artists are able to bring one or two pieces to share at the event. There is no fee to share and mingle, but Wilson said those interested in selling their art at The Studio can do so, too, at a later date.

Hors d'oeuvres will be served and the free event runs from 4-8 p.m. For more information email Wilson at wilsonpromo@gmail.com or call (208) 596-8006.
