Now in its ninth year, Pullman’s annual ArtWalk is a good excuse to browse the growing city and meet the creatives helping to define it.

ArtWalk begins tonight with artist receptions at more than 25 businesses. It culminates with a street fair Saturday. Here are some highlights from this year’s event to help you map out a plan of attack.

Meet the artists.

Meet dozens of area artists at receptions taking place today at various businesses. Find a link to times and a map here. There’s also a community meet and greet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Regional Theatre of the Palouse.

Let someone else do the driving.

To get around with ease, pick up an Artwalk Calling Card from participating business or Pullman Transit drivers. The card doubles as a bus pass. It’s also your ticket to enter to win prizes if you collect eight or more exhibiting merchant signatures.

Visit the new street fair.

New this year is a Saturday street fair from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Olsen Street. The free fair celebrates the arts and Pullman’s 130 years as an incorporated city. The street will be closed to traffic and filled with booths featuring arts, crafts, food, and area nonprofits. There will also be live music and other performances.

Eat up.

Food at Saturday’s street fair includes Bangladeshi cuisine by Mela; and seasonal pies made by J.P. Pies, a mother and daughter baking duo from Lacrosse, Wash.

Make something.

If you’re more than looky-loo, there are opportunities to do. From 3 to 5 p.m. today, make a paper relief composition at an Open Studio for Kids and Adults with artist Rhonda Skaggs. The free workshop is at the Red Dog Art Room (room 309) at Gladish Community and Cultural Center. Free hands-on art activities for preschoolers to middle schoolers can be found from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Neill Public Library’s Heritage Addition.
