The Christmas music of Elvis, The Ramones and Dean Martin, among other holiday hits, will echo off the Lewiston Civic Theatre stage from the instruments of Santa Claus and his elves, who play on stage for Santas Toyshop, a holiday music revue.
Written by Harmoney Jordan, LCTs Santas Toyshop director, the revue follows a toys last night at the North Pole during a Christmas party. In preparation, toys find their travel buddies for delivery, and break out in song and dance.
Elvis White Christmas, The Ramones Merry Christmas, I Dont Want to Fight Tonight and Martins Marshmallow World are just a few of the featured songs.
Jordan chose more contemporary hits for the revue, and also wrote the plot.
When youre writing it, you think its going to play out one way, and then you cast out your character, and they bring their ideas to the table, Jordan said. And you find out it turns out maybe better than you thought.
As the second show shes ever written, Santas Toyshop has had its challenges, such as cast schedules. But thats how the theater goes, and each production is a little bit different, she said.
The cast of 25, ranging in age and experience, can be found in the audience from time to time, performing with a four-piece band, which remains on stage. Santa plays guitar, while his elves play drums, bass, keyboard and even more guitar.
People can get up and dance and sing and interact with the actors, Jordan said. Its a great thing to bring your kids to, because all the characters are toys, and theres just amazing talent in the cast.
