When it comes to politics, political satire can make people laugh when they want to scream and cry.
Friday night Emmy Award-winning comedian Seth Meyers performs at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman for Dads Weekend. Meyers, a Saturday Night Live cast member for 13 seasons, is host of NBCs Late Night with Seth Meyers where he created a signature segment called A Closer Look, which zeroes in on current events, especially American politics and President Donald Trump. In 2014, Time magazine named Meyers one of the most influential people in the world. In the spirit of Election Day on Tuesday, we watched some Closer Look segments on YouTube to see Meyers take on recent politics. On a recent poll that found 51 percent of Democrats now have a favorable view of former President George W. Bush:
Meyers: That makes sense because I also would have a favorable view of the flu if I found myself with the plague.

On President Trump calling San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz of Puerto Rico not a capable person after she publicly begged for U.S. aid in the wake of Hurricane Maria and criticized Trumps lack of response to the crisis:
Meyers: Im sorry, shes not a capable person? What did you do after the hurricane? You took a week to even send FEMA, you reminded them about their debts and then you showed up two weeks after that and chucked paper towels like a teenager in the break-room at Costco. This is what male entitlement looks like, a woman of color literally wading through flood waters to help her constituents being attacked by a powerful man so incompetent he probably floods his own bathroom because he forgets to turn the faucet off.

On NBC Today asking Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker in an Oct. 24 interview if, left to his own devices, President Trump is a threat to national security. Coker answered, I think there are people around him who work in an effort to contain him.
Meyers: Not only is that answer terrifying, so is the question. You shouldnt have to ask if the president is a threat to national security. Thats like asking a real estate agent, Are there ghosts in the closet? The answer to that question should always be, dont be ridiculous but in this case the real estate agent is saying, yes, there is a ghost in the closet.

On Trumps flurry of Tweets Friday claiming the Trump/Russia collusion was phony, was a Democratic witch hunt and that Republicans were fighting back. He ended with the words DO SOMETHING! in all caps:
Meyers: Do something? He sounds like a super villain barking orders at his henchmen after James Bond escapes: Hes getting away, do something! But his henchmen are yelling back, We cant were all under federal investigation.
