A couple of folk blokes: Low-key Warren brings music to Moscow Saturday

If you’ve never heard of Warren or its band members, that’s partly by design.

Described in an email interview as “a couple of blokes from somewhere, playing music,” the two-piece art folk band stands out from most bands in that they’re not trying to stand out from the other bands coming through the area. They’ve got no website, they go by different names and they avoid claiming a hometown except to say they’re from the Western U.S.

That’s because this venture is not about collecting fans or making a name for themselves based on what they’ve already done. Brian Jones, as he currently calls himself, is a lifelong career musician who returned from a recent tour wanting to pursue a songwriting project with his wife, Elizabeth, by his side. Wanting a more authentic, personal music experience, the two “meet new people, play music and enjoy this great country.” And this weekend, those efforts bring them to Moscow where they will play Saturday at One World Cafe.

The duo has a simple music set that’s ideal for quieter, more intimate settings where the music can serve as a conversation. They perform original songs, as well as new twists on music that’s been around, whether for a long time or only recently.

For this duo, Warren is an opportunity to start from scratch, do what they love together and to share it with others who are willing to listen.
