Touring South Dakota via train (Amtrak Empire Builder) from Spokane to Williston, North Dakota is a true adventure. Attached is a photo taken 8/17/2015, by John Farbo, of the South Dakota Badlands. This amazing area transforms into beautiful landscapes with various strata and colors.

It was hummingbird reunion day at our house east of Moscow. Several species all coming for dinner at the same time on Thursday, May 19th. We have other feeders, but the front window was the feeder of choice for three pairs of three different species. Then the reflection off of the glass makes the photo appear to have 12 birds buzzing about. The copper colored Rufus is at 9 o'clock; the Black-chinned at 3 o'clock; and, the Broad-tailed at 6 o'clock. All the females are green. (The Calliope pairs use other feeders.)
Taken on Tuesday evening May 2 as the thunderheads began to take shape. We are east of Moscow looking to the east toward Montana. The rain and lighting were interesting later in the evening.
The bright yellow field was snapped on the 4th of July between Pullman and Moscow. This canola seed is almost ready for harvest. The relative of the mustard seed will be turned into canola oil and jet engine oil. It was an exciting addition to the local farming choices when back in the 1960s because it is also referred to as Rape Seed with kids laughingly yelling "Rape"
